New Collaborative Project with the JGI on ultra-saline microbial mats

News

Dimitri Meier and Dagmar Woebken along with members of the Joint Genome Institute will sequence the microbial community in ultra-saline microbial mats at the coast of Oman. The goal of the project is to reveal the microorganisms responsible for functional element cycling at this extreme salinity, as well as general and organism-specific adaptations to hyper-salinity stress encoded in the genomes. This project will be funded in the framework of the community science (CSP) New Investigator program of the JGI.
